Vasil "Charles" Chuma

Son of Andrew and Mary (Pavlik) Chuma. Born 8 Jan 1895 in the village of Bystryj [R]/Határszog [H]/Verchovyna-Bystra [U], Uzh [R]/Ung [H] County, Subcarpathian Rus', Austria-Hungary (present day Ukraine); and died 19 May 1986 in Binghamton, Broome County New York. He married Olena "Helen" Kelemec, date unknown, they had six children.

Olena was the daughter of Vasil and Anna (Vidmosko) Kelemec. Born 4 Jan 1904 in the village of Bystryj, Uzh/Ung County, Subcarpathian Rus', Austria-Hungary; and died 20 Apr 1962 in Binghamton, Broome County New York. Charles and Helen are buried in the Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal, Broome County New York.

Charles immigrated to the United States arriving in New York on 9 Sep 1923 aboard the SS Hansa, departing from Hamburg Germany. According to the ship's passenger list, Charles was listed as Vasyl Cuma. His brother paid his passage and his destination was his brother Ivan Cuma whose address was listed as "United, Pa Box 192".

Helen immigrated to the United States arriving in New York on 4 Oct 1922 aboard the SS Gothland, departing Antwerp, Belgium. According to the ship's passenger list, Helen was listed as Olena Kelemec. Her father paid her passage and her destination was her father Vasil Kelemec whose address was listed as "Westmoreland Co, RFD 3, Blairsville Pa". Note; Blairsville is acutally located in Burrell Township, Indiana County Pennsylvania.
