     The son of Andrij and Ánna (Oplinich) Brenzovich.  Męchal was born on 20 Nov 1887 presumably in Už County, Carpathian Rus', Austria-Hungary (Present Ukraine).  He was married and had one child.  Męchal died on 29 May 1914 in St Clair, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  He is buried in St Michael's Russian Greek Catholic Cemetery, St Clair, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

  • GENERAL NOTE:  Męchal/Michael's existence was discovered in July 2002 while searching for the grave site of Jurkó 'George' Brenzovich in St Clair, Schuylkill County Pennsylvania. 
  • BIRTH PLACE:  Męchal's exact birth place is unknown, however Už county is now located in the Velkyj Bereznyj district of the Transcarpathian Oblast (Region) Ukraine.  Prior to the partitioning of the Hungarian Empire after World War I, Už County [English translation Uzh; spelled Ung in Hungarian] was part of the Hungarian Empire and eventually the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.  Geographically it is located in southern slopes of the Carpathian Mountains of East-Central Europe, the ancestral homeland of the Carpatho-Rusyn people.  The region was known for centuries as Carpathian Rus'; also referred to as Ruthenia.  The area comprising Už County was called Subcarpathian Rus’.  After World War I it was made part of the republic of Czechoslovakia.  After World War II it was annexed by the Soviet Union and made part of the Ukraine.  For more information about the Carpatho-Rusyn people and their homeland click here.
  • DEATH: A brief news article in the Pottsville Journal dated 29 May 1914 reads; "Killed by Fall of Coal - Mike Benzwvich, age 26 years was caught under a fall of coal at the Herbine colliery, at St Clair yesterday afternoon late and instantly killed.  He is survived by a wife and one child.  Deputy Coroner Hughes will conduct an inquest."  Note; results of inquest are not known at this time.
