The origin of the Brenzovich surname is not
really known. In many Eastern European Countries, surnames were derived from various origins, such as; names of places,
patronymics, matronymics, trades, occupations, physical appearances, personality and nicknames. In the East Slavic language,
some form of "vich, ovich, icz or wicz" at the end of a surname ususally meant "son of ". There appears to be no source
or meaning for the word "Brenz". However, in the Czech language, "Bren" is the name of a well-known cheese. Could it
be that the Brenzovich surname originated from the son of a cheese maker who made his way to the Carpathian Mountains of Ruthenia,
maybe so?
However, there is another theory that could
explain the origin of the Brenzovich surname. In the early centuries of the Hungarian Kingdom, it is known that various
kings invited and recruited people from other areas of Europe to settle, live and populate sparsely populated areas within
the boundaries of the kingdom. In my research, it came to my attention that there exist a village/town in Italy named
Brenzone. Brenzone is located in Northern Italy on the shores of Garda Lake approximately
half way between Milano and Venezia. The following is pure speculation and there is no proof to substantiate this theory
one way or another at this time.
